Skirting Board Fitting London
Skirting boards are one of the most visible finishing carpentry details in any room. Poorly fitted skirting — gaps at corners, uneven heights, visible nails — looks cheap and unprofessional. Doorz London fits skirting to a true finishing standard across all London boroughs.
Skirting Board Profiles We Fit
| Profile | Style | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Victorian / Ogee | Period / Traditional | Victorian, Edwardian, period properties |
| Torus | Classic | Most UK homes — versatile |
| Bullnose | Simple rounded | Modern and contemporary |
| Chamfered | Clean modern | Modern new builds |
| Square Edge / Flat | Minimal | Minimalist interiors |
| Bespoke / Matched | Period match | Matching existing Victorian skirting |
MDF vs Hardwood Skirting
MDF Skirting
Most common in London properties. Pre-primed and ready to paint. Clean, consistent profile. Will not warp in most conditions. Economical and practical.
Hardwood Skirting
Oak, pine, tulipwood. For properties where the skirting will be varnished or stained rather than painted. More expensive but premium finish. We supply at trade price.
How Doorz Fits Skirting — We scribe skirting to the wall and floor — not rely on filler to cover gaps. Internal corners are scribed and coped, not butted. External corners are mitred to a tight joint. We use a combination of adhesive and secret nailing for a clean, pin-free finish.
Skirting Heights — What Is Standard?
- 100mm (4 inch) — standard for modern properties
- 145mm (6 inch) — typical Victorian / Edwardian period match
- 170mm (7 inch) — grander Victorian / Georgian properties
- 219mm (9 inch) — large period rooms with high ceilings
Architrave & Skirting Together
For the best result, skirting and architrave should be fitted at the same time — they need to be matched in profile and properly joined at the floor junction. Doorz fits both trades in a single visit for a perfectly coordinated result.
